Big Trip 2010: UK favourite sketches

October 19, 2010 | 1 Comment

Jenners Department Store- Edinburgh

I had SOOOO much fun doing this – was beautiful day, sitting in the sun in a safe position, lots of chats to onlookers and my pen just freely did its own thing – in the groove!

Eteaket Tearoom Edinburgh

My favourite tearoom from last years visit. The china is very special but found the selection of tea not so great this time.

Callanish Standing Stones – Lewis.

Nothing could be further from NYC! Lovely peaceful afternoon sketching something completely different from anything I had seen on the trip.

Leverburgh- South Harris

In fact this is even further from NYC than Lewis. Great fish and chips and tea and view to the even more remote islands of North Uist!

Harris Hills

Stopped to fill up with petrol (gas) and then realised the wonderful view so pulled over and did this 5 minute quickie

Dun Carloway Broch- Lewis.

A very impressive old building!

Hardwick Hall – more glass than wall.

I think this is my greatest achievement of the trip (and longest sketch) as doing all those window panes (neatly) is so not what I normally like doing. I did get a bit bored by the end but enjoyed it far more than I expected.

Blenheim Palace

My favourite building in the UK? Spent ‘all day’ here and certainly didn’t run out of things to draw!

Blenheim Detail

I loved doing this ‘exploratory’ drawing.

Hi Liz – LOVE all your sketches. They are fab and so evocative! Can't believe you drew all those little panes of glass – patience is not a virture of mine. Cheers, alix
