How loose can I go?

March 22, 2024 | 8 Comments

I haven’t been sketching teacups lately but a few days ago I was so in control of my unpacking that I could sit down quietly and do a teacup sketch.

I chose one of my favourite cups to paint – Lady Carlyle by Royal Albert – and shortly after starting I realised that the result would be very loose.

I did this teacup sketch to celebrate starting to put my teacups in a wall unit.  As mentioned in a previous article, my teacups were the first items I moved across to my new place so it makes me happy to have them out of my kitchen pantry and visible. For the first time ever they are on display! And yes, I’ll share more about this in the coming weeks.

Finally, just a reminder that I now have a dedicated Teacups course where you can learn about all the fun watercolour techniques I use when doing a paint-only sketch such as this one. It’s available as a self-paced course so you can start today and work through at your own pace. I’ll also be hosting a group event in a few months and will share full details closer to the date. Find out more about Teacups here.

Congrats Liz! Thank you for putting a smile on my face every time I hear from you. And thank you for giving me courage to just paint; what fun it’s been. If I didn’t live so very far away, I’d bring you a loaf of bread and salt. Enjoy your new home.
