Lockdown Teacups: Catchup (Teacups 60-92)

September 30, 2021 | 12 Comments

It’s now time to get up to date with my lockdown teacup project!

I’m still doing a teacup sketch for each day during our current lockdown here in Sydney but I haven’t had a chance to put them together in a dedicated article. So this brings us up to teacup number 92 (Tuesday’s sketch).

Putting these images together (the sketches are in order) makes two things clear:

  1. The overwhelming favourite colour choices are black/white and pink.
  2. I’m still obsessed with houndstooth!

As I have other things going on (my bush sketches and using coloured pencils and then markers) this project has definitely taken a back seat. It’s pretty easy for me to do a teacup sketch each day as I normally pause for my afternoon cuppa and the sketch only takes a few minutes. The hard part is making the decision of which cup to sketch and then getting it out! 🙂

But still, it’s added something special to each day to be doing these sketches.

Enjoy!

So this collection is telling me that I need to branch out a little. Maybe a week of yellow teacups is needed? What do you think? Let me know in the comment section below.

Beautiful teacups, LIZ! You are so talented; thank you for your gift. Be safe. Fondly, cheryl

FUN project! New twist: find a different shadow color?

    • Liz Steel says:

Hi Dana – nice idea. Just for the record I do adjust the pigments I use for shadows slightly depending on the cup but maybe it’s too subtle to pick up!

I just wanted to tell you that I love your art! You’ve inspired me to draw more often and to be more loose in my sketches/paintings. I think It is such a great idea to add Bible verses, and I have also incorporated that practice here and there.

In response to your lovely tea cups, I think a couple more colors would be nice to add. Can you still go out for tea occasionally? I hope you can.

    Wishing you all the best!

    • Liz Steel says:

THanks Cindy! ANd great to hear that you are adding Bible verses too. We can’t go out for tea or coffee at the moment- still locked down. But I get my morning coffee as takeaway and sit in the sun to drink it. the rest of the day I drink tea at home from my fancy cups.

Is that a pink leopard print tea cup? I loved the houndstooth, but leopard may have stolen my heart! This is such a fabulous way to mark the days!

    • Liz Steel says:

Ah yes Jamie! It is exactly that!!!! When I bought the houndstooth cup, the pink and gold leopard cup keep calling my name… so I ended up buying another ‘lockdown cup’! As our lcokdown has been so long I think I can justify having another one. It is so super cool!!! I’m glad someone pick up on it.

Hi Liz, Amazing sketches as always… how about some more sketches of the Regency Blue… or other Royal Albert cups?? As yellow is my favourite colour, yes I vote yellow, with some blue thrown in for good measure LOL.

    • Liz Steel says:

Ah! Heather… I haven’t sketched Regency Blue yet…did you realise this???? I was saving it for later earlier in the project but then got distracted by houndstooth. So maybe a week of yellow and then blue.

  • manuela says:

    I vote for more blue.
