SketchingNow giveaway and a 10-year anniversary

November 23, 2022 | 10 Comments

It’s been ten years since I left my architecture career to become a full-time urban sketcher and teacher!

To celebrate I’ve decided to give away 10 SketchingNow coupons as a way of celebrating an incredible decade.
Many of you have been a big part of my journey over this period (or even before that) so I want to pause a moment and say a huge thank you!

It is a complete understatement to say that without the support and encouragement from my online friends and followers I would never have made the big change in my life.

From the moment I started sharing my work online (back in the days of Flickr) I was constantly blown away by how motivating a few supportive comments could be – how much they inspired me to keep going – to keep growing and developing my skills. I also received a lot of incredible encouragement from fellow Urban Sketchers to start teaching.

(Aside: If you are someone who is afraid to post your work online, I can attest to the fact that amazing things can happen if you share your journey!)

Ten years ago when I decided to have a break from architecture I didn’t initially intend it to be permanent! I just wanted 6 months to have a break and start to do a little teaching. But being free of a day job meant that opportunities started flowing in and after a few months I knew that there would be no going back. It was very up and down at the start, but it all changed when I launched my first SketchingNow Course Foundations!

In many ways my story breaks all the rules – I didn’t have a side hustle and a part-time income coming in before I quit my day job. But I did have a lot of momentum from somewhat obsessively sketching and sharing my adventures as a hobby and this is what sustained me for the first rocky 2 years.

I can see some more reminiscing coming in the next few weeks 🙂 but for today I just want to say thank you and share more about my giveaway. So…

I’m giving away

5 x $100USD Coupons

5 x $50USD Coupons

which can be used when purchasing any

SketchingNow course or bundle

Signup here to go into the draw for one of 10 coupons

Ten winners will be randomly selected and will be notified via email on Friday 2 December 2022. The coupons will be valid for 12 months so there is no pressure to use them in the coming week! 🙂

Thanks again so much for being part of my amazing sketching adventure – whether from the early days or more recently.

It means a great deal to me that you are following along – whether via social media, my blog or inside a SketchingNow course. There are no words to describe how grateful I am!

    Congratulations Liz !!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY

I share your happiness because your article reminds me of beautiful things and I bless the day when our paths are crossed …
I think it was 2017 when I first saw you, it’s the year of my very first class with you, but I can’t remember which one. In fact, I followed them all, except “Foundations” (I don’t despair :)). What a wonderful discovery: A teaching beyond my expectations and a teacher of great generosity …
So, it’s a big birthday for me too: date when I started my adventure in the sketchbook on a daily basis with you. Everything I have learned, I owe you, both technically and humanly. And I continue to follow you through your courses, your blog and instagram…. Very addictive as you can see :)!
You say you are grateful for the support of your students or friends, I can return the same gratitude.
So, I hope to follow you for many years to come since the France

    See you soon Liz
    and again THANK YOU

Hi Laurence – thank you so much for your kind words. It’s always great to see you in the livestreams and have you in the group. Happy sketching to you… and maybe one day I’ll make it back to France! 🙂

  • Ruth Bosveld says:

Congratulations, Liz. You gave me the confidence to follow my artistic interests as well.

    • Liz Steel says:

Thanks Ruth! It seems so long ago since I was in Tassie. Need to return and catch up on things – including your own art! 🙂

  • Flory Nye-Clement says:

Congratulations Liz!! Ten years of awesome development and teaching, inspiring and encouraging others. Many others! I feel so fortunate to have encountered you first at Sketchbook Skool and then to have joined every one of your classes since, from the first Foundations onward. So much of my art practice I learned from you, dear Liz. Thank you for your fabulous teaching, thank you for your ebullient and uplifting presence, and thank you for the joy you bring to this world. Love and hugs from Flory!

    • Liz Steel says:

Hi Flory! thanks so much for your lovely comment. It’s been so nice to hang out with you in Sydney a few times too!

  • Wendy Nelson says:

Congratulations, LIz! You are are one of the people I think about when I’m looking for inspiration. Not just because you are prolific sketcher or a great teacher. Not even because of your enthusiasm and generosity. But because you opened up your heart all those years ago, and kept trusting and following it. AND, you were brave enough to share your journey. Thank-you. I also first encountered you in “Seeing” at Sketchbook Skool, and have been following ever since. I think your 3 ways of visual thinking (feeling edges, abstracting shapes and constructing volumes) are totally brilliant. Other teachers often are specialists in one of the 3 approaches, and you do this amazing job of teaching all three. I”m doffing my hat to you, sending virtual hugs, and wishing you the best in the years to come 🙂

    • Liz Steel says:

Thank you Wendy for your lovely comment. And super special that you mention the three ways of visual thinking as that has become the foundation of everything I teach 🙂

  • Beverlee says:

So happy for you, Liz!! Your story is inspiring, just like your teaching. You’ve helped me grow so much, and not just in sketching. Here’s to another 10 years!
