New Blue Shoes

Yesterday – I started a new daily sketchbook.

A landscape Stillman and Birn Alpha book. My local art store – the Art Scene –  didn’t have the bound one in stock so I got a spiral-bound one instead. Being able to fold back the page will prove useful – especially on small cafe tables. Just for the record, the half-used Gamma A5 book I was using will have another very useful purpose so it is not abandoned totally.

I don’t intend to draw across the spiral as I did late last year in my small zeta book…but it is nice to have a larger area to use without a spine to work over. I also like the fact that the opposite sides of the page can talk to each other! The sense of space is really lovely in this book and there is more room for notes which is what I want!

I need to get back to illustrating my life – there is something special about the discipline of recording day-to-day trivia on the page!

It is heavier but I might just have to shed some art supplies to compensate… an art supply detox is on the cards I think!

My other big challenge is finding time to sketch for myself. I have so many projects going at the moment and I find it hard to switch off and have some time for my own art. Last night 11.45pm is crazy and yet it was worth it as it didn’t take me very long and slowed my pace a little. I haven’t done any of this crazy late-night sketching for a long time… I don’t want to get back into that habit – but it was good to record my blue shoes (buying wearable shoes is a very difficult process for me!)
