My Pink 'Melbourne' Cup - Teacup Collection #13

December 12, 2019 | 3 Comments

A few weeks ago I started an Indesign file so I could keep track of how many and which teacups I have sketched as part of this mini project – sketching through my teacup collection. I was shocked to discover that yellow-green-blue cups have been dominating and that I hadn’t sketched a single pink cup.

Actually this is not such a shock as I’m not really into pink (the result of wearing a pink school uniform for six years of high school).

Anyway… back to teacups. Here is my Pink ‘Melbourne’ Cup.

It’s another T2 cup and another cup which was bought as a prop for a workshop. This time a 2 day workshop in Melbourne way back in 2013. This is one of the most sketched cups in my collection. Its design and colours make it one of the easiest to sketch.

This sketch was done in a few minutes (the shadow wash was painted over a damp first pass) in a Hahnemuhle Nostalgie sketchbook. I’m really enjoying the super smooth paper in this book… and yes, I will do a full review of the book once I’ve finished it.

Now what colour cup should I sketch next… I still have about 20 to go!

If you want to see some previous versions of this cup and the other pink ones in my collection click here.

And seriously, I would love some suggestions as to what colour cup I should next sketch! Please comment below.

    Hi Liz,
as I love violet I would love you to sketch your Royal Albert teacup next, please!
    – Btw: I’m very excited to take part in your buildings run-through. Since I bought it but didn’t do it till now, this is a super chance for me to do it with a group behind me. Thanks a lot for offering this!

Royal Albert! Or some other purple or orange teacups ?

I know what you mean about wearing pink. I’ve been a ballet dancer all my life, and had to wear pink tights, slippers and sometimes a pink leotard. To this day . . .I LOVE pink (believe it or not). Violet and purple are my other colors. Do you have a teacup with both of these colors?? You have inspired me to sketch MY teacup collection. I have a beautiful pink/violet one from my great-grandmother I’m going to do now that I have the inspiration!
