Non-stop sketching and Palladian Villas: A School of Sketching Interview

September 24, 2021 | 2 Comments

Last week I had a really fun conversation with my friend Olga Sorokina from School of Sketching. She is an interior designer and teacher who loves sketching interiors in perspective.

We had a wide-ranging conversation with an emphasis on quick sketching and why Palladio is so special. I also shared the way I catalogue my sketchbooks (I haven’t shared that index book here before).

And you might also be interested in this article from a few years ago – “Why do you sketch so fast?” – that covers some of the ideas we discussed in this conversation.

After we finished recording the interview we chatted a little more and discussed using markers. As a result, I got my Copic markers out and I’ve started sketching with them again. A sneak peek was included at the end of yesterday’s post… but I’ll be sharing more next week. 🙂

Thanks Olga!!! So inspiring to chat with you. Follow Olga – School of Sketching on Instagram here.

    Hi Liz,

Just thought you might be interested in Nuthall Temple, unfortunately pulled down in the 1920s.

My maternal grandparents met there in the 1890s when Grandad became a butler’s boy (always known as Buttons, because of the uniform butler’s boys wore which had around 20 buttons up the front, and is where the British pantomime character comes from) and Granny was the nursery maid.

Its design was based very heavily on the Rotunda – the Villa Capra, and in its day was said to be the finest Palladian building outside of Italy

Thanks so much for sharing Dee – I didn’t know about that building. What a beauty… and such a cute story about your grandparents!
