Adding elements to my sketchbook pages

January 19, 2021 | 2 Comments

At the moment in my Sketchbook Design course, we are looking at various elements which we can add to our pages. So last week I added text and headings, borders, colour blocks and maps. It was a lot of fun!

I’ve also just started a new sketchbook (another 8×10 Stillman and Birn Softcover Alpha) and I’ve been really pleased with the first few pages.

So without further ado here they are…

Sketching a church in Fenwick Scotland (where the Steels come from) as warm up before filming. I had been going through some old travel photos so this is the reason for the subject matter. The page also contains my filming setup as discussed yesterday. The grass of the churchyard became a colour block, I did a heading and added a border. So this spread has all four elements in it!

My ‘new normal’ refers to the fact that I’m now asking for my lattes in a dark blue cup when I visit my local cafe. Some London rooftops thanks to Window Swap and a zoom catchup with friends – Suhita, Nina and Shari. My placement of sketches was a little awkward so I used a thick border to help separate the part sketches.

A quick sketch during another Zoom call and then a map of a local spot that I visited to see how I could sketch there.

Bits and pieces that my nieces and nephews asked me to sketch during a lovely family picnic.

Not every page is super successful, but I sure have fun trying to pull together a random (and sometimes awkward) collection of images and elements on my page.

There are no words to describe how much I am loving going through my Sketchbook Design course! There are so many wonderful pages and ideas being constantly posted into the classroom and a great energy within the group. As a result, I’m really feeling super inspired with my own work at the moment! It’s sometimes hard for me to have time for my own work when I release a new course as I still have a lot of work going on behind the scenes. But this time it’s different! Thanks to everyone who is part of the group – all I can say is WOW! You all are so inspiring and supportive.

If you are interested in the course – it’s still open for enrollment. Although you will have a bit to catch up on and it’s not too late to join.  You’ll be able to attend weekly livestreams and be part of this super interactive and supportive Group Run-through. If you leave it any longer, catching up will be much harder as we are almost at the half-way point. Find out more here.
