Lisbon 'regrets'

I regret that I didn’t have more time to explore Lisbon and sketch it on my own – SUCH a beautiful city!!!!! A few days on the street before the symposium would have been great – however I wouldn’t have exchanged my special times with friends in the UK for a few more sketches. But it is a plan for the next symposium that I attend.

There are numerous must see’s that I totally missed but I also missed my own personal random exploration of the streets of Lisbon to find some crazy over the top buildings to sketch.

This morning I came across Orling’s wonderful sketch here. I had to look it up on Google Street View and tonight sketched it … yes it is one of those ‘late night Friday night baroque-type sketches’ – an occasion when my pen just feels like exploring an intricate facade without any pressure on whether the proportion is correct or things align as they should. oh!!! SO much fun!!! and very relaxing for me!

One of my resolutions post-Lisbon is to make more of an effort to get out and sketch Sydney’s architecture and as such, inspired by USkers that work larger, I have started a A4 size book for this purpose. Ok… I know that this is NOT an ‘urban sketch’… its from a photo… SHOCKING!…. however it was wonderful to get a feel for this larger size. ..and wow! I loved it!!! The larger size is good for more writing…but sadly will be heavier to carry.

Would really love to get a big sketch done in this new book tomorrow after a tearoom catch up with some friends… but the forecast is not promising…sigh – back to winter weather…but I am still in hyper-sketching mode so the cold and wet is secondary considerations for me at the moment.
