Mixing: Alizarin Crimson

April 18, 2013 | Leave your thoughts

So who uses alizarin crimson and who doesn’t?

There is no doubt that it is a lovely colour but ever since reading Handprints questioning its lightfastness have used Perylene Maroon instead. BUT that is a completely different colour, has a huge drying shift and needs to be mixed with another colour (such as permanent rose) to get a similar hue.

I am thinking of going back to Alizarin Crimson… so interested in anyone’s thoughts.

BTW this is done in my special sketchbook dedicated to colour and colour mixing. It is such a great resource to have it all in one spot.
