Foundations Colours in a Micro Palette

December 10, 2021 | 6 Comments

A number of people asked about the mini palette pictured in the preview of today’s live demo….

Well, it’s a Micro Palette by Portable Painter and contains my Basic Palette of 6 colours. These are the colours I used throughout the Foundations course and the colours inside the Sketcher Set of half pans by Daniel Smith.

The colours are:

DS Hansa Yellow Medium PY97
DS Quinacridone Rose PV19
DS  Ultramarine Blue PB29
DS Monte Amiata Natural Sienna PBr7
DS Transparent Red Oxide PR101
DS Cerulean Blue Chromium PB36

More about the selection of these six colours can be found here.

These six colours work perfectly within the Micro palette and I love that I’m able to set up the palette to mirror the way I use my bigger palettes. I prefer using a separate water bottle so I use the attached tray to hold my small plastic jar of water.

The palette has a handle underside as well, that works well.

The pieces fit together compactly (there is a carry bag as well) and I’ve been enjoying using it in the past few months. You can see it in action in this article.

So have you tried this palette? Would love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below.

Note: I do not receive any affiliate or royalty payments for either of these products – and purchased both of these myself.

In other news…

Thanks to everyone who attended the Live Demo and Q&A Session this morning – and especially those of you who were active in the chat. We had so much fun!

I shared two essential techniques for any kind of sketching. I showed how important it is to see the world as edges and shapes – and how these basic foundational skills are essential for sketching more complex scenes on location.

The Replay is now available here. You can also find out more about the Group Run-through of Foundations which is starting on 5 January on that page.

I’m super excited about going through the course again, and especially the 12 weekly bonus livestreams which I will be hosting throughout. Please let me know in the comment section below if you have any questions about Foundations or the Group Run-through. (If you are reading this via email, please click on the article title link below and add a comment on my blog. Thanks!)

I am one of those who has bought the course (last Spring) but have not done but two of the Intro lessons. Am hoping to join the class this time and keeping up with the lessons.

THanks Jamie! The chat was pretty busy but I did see you in there 🙂

Another fun Livestream Liz! I’m looking forward to the Group Run-through of Foundations as I’ve had so much fun with Buildings!!

To anyone interested in this course (or any of Liz’s courses) I highly recommend. I did the course when it was first offered in 2014 and loved it so much that I take part in the group run-throughs whenever they are offered. I learn more and more each time as I understand more and more each time as my skill level improves. The community of people are great and very supportive!! Learning, fun & an enthusiastic/inspired teacher what more could you ask for?
