Demos in my Instagram Stories

October 11, 2016 | 2 Comments

Just a quick note to let you all know that I am sharing mini demos into my Instagram stories on a regular basis. At the moment it’s just my morning lattes but I hope to expand this to more varied subject matter once things settle down a little.

You need to have the latest version of Instagram on your smart phone to view these videos, but keep an eye on them regularly as they disappear after 24 hours. In some ways this is a bit annoying as a viewer, but as a creator it’s wonderfully liberating – what is posted isn’t permanent so there is less pressure to make it perfect.

And just for the record, filming these stories is extremely difficult. I have to try to watch my subject, my paint brush and the camera on my phone all at the one time. Of course it would be a little easier if I was just drawing, or just painting, but I have to make it harder for myself by drawing with my paintbrush, don’t I? At the moment I am normally looking through the phone screen to paint, so the results are always a bit ‘hit and miss.’ Filming also slows down the sketching time, so there is the added pressure of making sure my coffee doesn’t go cold. Ah! it is great for stretching myself and having a bit of fun.

If you are not on Instagram, don’t worry! I am gearing up to share more videos generally, and Instagram stories are the way for me to get warmed up.

My Instagram account is here.

Question: Has anyone noticed the column of white in my feed? I have been curating my posts in this way since mid-July and loving the discipline it gives to my posts.
