I now begin posting all my sketches in Barcelona post-symposium

Opening sketches….Two  of Casa Mila that I REALLY enjoyed doing!

I really enjoyed hanging around for 5 full sketching days afterwards. It gave me the opportunity to have some quality time with other USkers still around, got to explore some of the things on my to do list (but not all) and a little time to process (not much thinking time) and get back to my normal sketching style. Always SO much going on in one’s head when sketching after the symposium.

So this first sketch post symposium – a very quick sketch was part of the unwinding and getting back to my natural rhythm!

One of the highlights of my whole time in BCN was sketching Casa Mila with Esther(my bestest sketching buddy!!!) in  just before she left to return to Edinburgh. Great company and a great subject… Gaudi is rather fun to draw! Here the two sketches are in the context of my sketchbook.

The rest of the day was what I call ‘our Belem day’. On the Monday after the 2nd symposium in Lisbon I spent a wonderful day just with Marc and Laurel Holmes (it was a real highlight!) At Santo Domingo, Daniel and Amber were the first USkers to arrive after me and I spend a wonderful day with them. (They were also at Belem on the Monday in Lisbon) so a Belem day signifies to me quality time with these two wonderful couples. And that is what we had.

Grand large classical architecture is something that Marc and I both enjoy sketching so we headed up to Montjuic to sketch the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya. Was very hot in the sun so I found the best possible shaded position.

D&A are architects… so we just had to go the Mies Van der Rohe Barcelona Pavilion… a real wow, tears in the eye moment!

D&A also know all the latest architecture and so suggested we pop in to Caxia Forum and see the rooftop. Very cool!…a few more sketches. It is amazing how quickly I can fill up a full spread in this book… I do love the larger size and the freedom it gives my hand! Also there is no doubt that I am hooked on these angular compositions!

Not sketching as many dinners this trip…but I had to draw my first(and only) Spanish paella! And a Inma inspired record of my room that I was in for 12 nights!

BTW if you are wondering about Sunday -the  day after the symposium. My day of rest and worship. THis one was very special as I had Esther to share with me. We went to a local church and then had a lovely time catching up on important things in Parc Citadualla (where I had been the week before) Will post my page from the day in the complete volume when (if!) finish scanning all my sketches!
