A new teacup (and teapot) project

September 28, 2022 | 4 Comments

A short article today just to let you know that a few weeks ago I started a new low-key project exploring different teapot and teacup combinations.

So starting with my green teapot (definitely a favourite), I’ve been using all the teacups from my collection that go with it. Some days I will sketch the teapot and teacup together, but most days it will just be the cup.

And to be a little different, I’m drawing the cups from the side!

In normal usage, I don’t look at the cup design as much as the saucer so I’m discovering new details in the patterns of my cups. I’m also having fun trying to produce symmetrical sketches! 🙂

This dark green teapot goes with a LOT of teacups – any cup that has a floral design with leaves plus my blue cups, my B&W cups and most of my pink cups (and hey! I have a lot of pink in my teacup collection). So it might be another few weeks before I get to change my teapot!

Just a single combo image today, but on Friday when I finally get around to sharing my latest sketchbook pages, you’ll see them in the context of my other recent sketches.

Okay… time to get back to Watercolour On Location-related themes. We officially start the Live Version today (yay!) and the first week will be devoted to a thumbnail challenge!

Thank you for this idea. I inherited teacups and a few pots from my grandmother, mother, and my brother who brought home a delicate set from German when he was serving there decades ago. This is a wonderful excuse to bring each out and savor the lines and colors of each. And to remember those individuals.
A great winter project, I might add.

Thanks Beverley – when I sketched through my teacup collection a few years ago it was around 60 cups…but a few more have been added since then!
