Teacup Collection 28: My SketchingNow Buildings cup

April 3, 2020 | 3 Comments

This week we finished up a Group Run-through of my SketchingNow Buildings course which has been going since January. It’s been an incredible experience for me to revisit all of my special techniques for sketching buildings and to do a heap of new demos (many hours worth!) to share with the group. In addition I filmed lots of videos answering specific questions that arose from the group (arches, chimneys, windows etc) and that was a lot of fun.

But the best part about the Group Run-through was getting to hang out with such a fun and supportive bunch of sketchers from around the world. We have really formed a strong bond and it’s hard for me to read the final takeaways section without getting a tear in my eye – especially when I read a comment that someone is ‘heart broken’ it has come to an end! Oh! you all are so special! And how much you have all achieved in the last 3 months is outstanding.

I did this sketch today of the cup which I bought in 2016 to mark the first run of the Buildings Course and it’s another T2 teacup.

I bought it because “it is more complicated than a baroque facade and I knew it would be very challenging for me to sketch quickly.” See more here in my article from 2016 when I first sketched it. I’m not sure I’ve attempted it since – wow!

As I was sketching and drinking my tea today I was thinking about my wonderful Buildings gang! Thank you all for making the last three months so special and inspiring.

And so, it’s super exciting that I’m able to roll straight into another Group Run-through next week. In fact I’m going to be hosting two – for SketchingNow Watercolour and SketchingNow Foundations.

To mark the occasion I have released some free Intro Lessons for both courses (the Foundations Intro Lessons are brand new – filmed this week). I’m going to be active in both courses, but as Watercolour currently doesn’t have any bonus material, I will be producing a lot of new material for that. And of course, as always, if you’ve enrolled in one of the courses at any time, you get free access to all the new material for that course.

Just click on the links to find out more: FoundationsWatercolour.

But to get back to the topic of teacups… I’m getting down to the last 10 or so cups in my collection, some of which are cracked or broken and I can’t use anymore. My SketchingNow Watercolour cup is one of these!

The last few weeks have been unusually hectic for me (hence missing posting an article on Wednesday this week) I hope to have more time for sketching now and I hope to pick up my teacup sketching pace a little and finish this little project soon.

Stay safe my friends!

So sad I never finish this class. Especially this time. Someday. My biggest regret was the live run through with you this time! Thanks for inspiring me, even if I don’t have follow through!

Hi Michelle – sorry we weren’t able to follow along with us but all the content is still there. Hope to see you and your work i the sketchingnow classroom soon. Take care!

    Hi Liz,
Hunkered down in my studio in the afternoons, I frequently go back to review your notes and videos from the ‘Sketching Now on Location.’ All the tips and examples are beginning to stick in my head when I go out to sketch Plein Air. Spring is beginning to warm up this week, so will be out in my front garden soon to paint the emerging blooms. I get a lot of inspiration from your blog, and am thinking of starting a Tea-cup series in my sketchbook as well. Stay safe, and keep ‘em coming 🙂
    Peri
