A reflex sketch of a Singapore Hawker Centre done during a catchup with @paulwang_sg last week(sketched from one of his photos).
Before I got on the zoom call I mentally reduced the complex scene into a series of shapes and lines and then leisurely extended my sketch as we chatted. I love how surrounding sounds can be encoded into a sketch, so by simply looking at this sketch a few hours later, I was reminded of snippets of our conversation. I ended up writing a page of notes recording things we talked about and ideas that were sparked by the conversation!

Liz I’d love to see the photo you used for the Paul Wang dwg—- I have never heard the expression “reflex drawing” and want to know more !
Hi Barry,
More about reflex sketching here
https://www.lizsteel.com/tag/reflex-sketching/
I’ve made a conscious effort to train myself to sketch while talking about something totally different 🙂
And you can see the original photo on Paul’s Instagram feed here:

swipe to see the photo – you can see that I only choose one part of the scene so it would be easier to sketch while chatting!
Such a wonderfully colorful sketch!
