Night Sketching

Thanks to our ‘Darks’ themes this month inside my Sketching Adventure Community on Patreon, I’m doing some night sketching. And loving it!

Here is the side door to St Andrews Cathedral and the entrance to Sydney Town Hall.

It’s the perfect time of the year for night sketching here in Sydney, as it’s getting darker earlier, but it’s not too cold yet.

On Friday, I published a video inside the community explaining my current steps for night sketching and how they relate to what I’ve been doing with backlighting in my early morning sketching.

And here is a preview of another video I shared inside Patreon about night sketching in watercolour.

Wow, that midnight blue-ish color you used in the first sketch really draws the eyes in to the shadows. It’s a lovely dark and vibrant effect.

Oh, those lights just absolutely glow when surrounded by the night sketching, don’t they? Beautiful! I wonder if they would glow even more working with purples instead of blues to hit the complementary color factor? Looks like I have an experiment for myself sometime!
