MyLGA2021 Sketches Part 1: The first week - Exploring

September 21, 2021 | Leave your thoughts

It’s time to start sharing all the pages from my recent staycation exploring my Local Government Area (LGA). Yay!

These pages were all done in a large square Clairefontaine Goldline Natural book (30x30cm). I really enjoyed using this book because of the size and format. Read a full review of the paper here.

As mentioned in my Reflections article I spent the first week exploring my LGA. I’m not going to repeat my thoughts so if you haven’t already read it, I recommend you do so that you understand the background to these sketches. 🙂

Today I’m simply going to include every spread in order, with a brief description of the subject matter. I plan to do some more detailed articles on specific topics/places in the next few weeks. These are large pages so it feels a little strange to see them as small scanned images in this article.  BTW I shared a lot of this book in last week’s Sketchbook Design livestream. (For those of you who have signed up for the course at any time: it’s Livestream 4 Sept 2021 and can be found in Lesson 2  Feedback and Tips section.)

Okay, here we go….

Enjoy!

Davidson Park and a little bit of wattle.

Goodfields lunch and a very large sketch of a local house.

Bobbin Head – the northern point of my LGA – this sketch was all about getting a better feel for the paper and the size of the sketchbook.

Sphinx Memorial in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and Rose Seidler House (from a photo). It’s currently closed so all I saw was the letterbox.

Wahroonga shops (from a photo) and some teacups. I’m still doing a teacup sketch for everyday in lockdown.

Wahroonga Park

Lane Cove National Park – the southern point of my LGA.

Sketches from photos of the grand houses on Burns Rd Wahroonga.

Most western Point (the end of Browns Rd) and the Glades Reserve.

Swain Garden, Killara.

Echo Point (the most eastern point) from Headland Rd Lookout and a new bag.

Lane Cove National Park – Carters Creek

Lane Cove National Park and Deep Deep Light watercolours.

First visit to Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden

Bits and pieces including a different approach to the Spanish Mission building on Lindfield Ave.

Finishing off the week at Lane Cove again (Blue Wren area) and some more wattle.

What a great week of sketching from home! 🙂

Stay tuned for week 2’s sketches and also my Greenwood Journal pages.
