My last few visits to Sydney City have been overcast or wet – not my favourite weather for sketching. But here are my sketches…
As always I’m trying different things all the time, mixing it up, but always coming back to watercolour! The grey-er the day, the crazier I seem to go with my colours and textures!
Sheltering from the rain in the foyer to Town Hall.
Muji notebooks, Sushi and one of the new ‘metro’ buildings.
St Andrews Chapter House
Foundation Park in The Rocks
A five-minute sketch of the Sydney Opera House – the first SOH sketch for the year!
St Mary’s Cathedral – looks like it might rain!
My church and the trees in front of it!

Delightful are your interpretations with some bright and intense colors here and there!
Thanks Lois – I’m having so much fun!
Liz, I love the softness and creaminess of some of paint in your sketches. And the watercolour magic achieved of course! Was that done with your standard paints or a bit of Neocolour II underneath or maybe the Naples Yellow I read you’re putting back in your palette?
And those those scenes are so wonderfully Sydney too. Love them!
Thanks Ginie – I haven’t yet put Naples Yellow back. So most of what you are seeing is MANS at various consistency!
No wonder you live MANS so much.
I love trying to capture weather and stormy skies! That sketch of St Mary’s Cathedral is my favorite. The colorful building really brings out the stormy sky! I need to try that myself. I tend not to be too adventurous in my colors, yet.
Thanks Jamie – yes stormy skies are the best!
Hi Liz
Do you do any sketching in the Muji notebooks or are they for notetaking only?
Thanks.
Hi Maria – as per my sketchbook page- they are my church notebooks (for sermon notes) so writing only!
