My new cafe

September 30, 2024 | 9 Comments

Here is a recent quick sketch of my new favourite cafe – Locked Inn. It’s a lone-corner shop in a residential area that is fun to sketch.

I love coming here for a coffee because the coffee is great, the owners and staff are really friendly ( a little interaction is a wonderful way to start my work day), and I love sketching local houses.

On this particular day… I couldn’t be bothered to get my watercolour palette out (too many other things on my mind), so I used watercolour pencils and a little marker.

Note: I love how the Sanguine watercolour pencil works just fine for the red postbox and the red stop sign!

This sketch took less than 10 minutes and I still had a few sips left in my takeaway coffee. 🙂

I’ve had a lot on my plate lately (ie. the amazing first cohort of my Travel Sketching course) and I’m not getting time to focus on my own sketching, so doing this was a good start to my day.

It’s so good to hear that you’ve found a new Favourite Cafe. ? ??
What a welcome treat to celebrate the wrap of the Travel Sketching course. It’s been so much fun traveling around the world with you and all my classmates these past few weeks.

The question marks in the comment above were emojis of a coffee cup and smile. LOL

NO problems – now that Travel Sketching is over I will ask my developer to do something about emojis here on the blog.

Thank you, Liz for sharing with us your travel sketching methods and for making it real! Your instructions on how to capture a scene, especially when one doesn’t have much time, are clear and practical. As always, I learned so much.

I noticed the lavender marker under layer right away. I love that color! Ha! I’ve been thinking of using markers in the same way as watercolor pencils and experiment with how that works for me.
Very nice cafe sketch! Was this done from a car? Standing on the corner?
