Last sketch of 2018

January 1, 2019 | 16 Comments

Just a quick post today to share my last sketch of 2018.

NYE was very quiet for me and I was asleep when midnight struck. Earlier in the evening I had fun sketching my new cup and pot and experimenting with watery washes and gel pens (white and gold). This isn’t the final version of page but it’s the last photo I took.

Today I woke up early and so my usual 6am walk was more like 5.30am. It was lovely to see the early light of 2019 and as always I was happy to hear the call of a whip bird. A perfect way to start my year.

For me the coming of a new year is a time for quiet reflection rather than big light shows, crowds, parties and noise. This year it was REALLY quiet and I loved it!

Happy New Year to you all!

Hi Liz, your final 2018 sketch is stunning, gorgeous blues, greens and golds and I am so pleased you chose the tea set as it is so you! I completed your on line watercolour course in 2018 and learned lots of really good ways of thinking about and doing watercolours that I am now practising nearly every day. So thank you for the insights into your life and the generous sharing of knowledge and experience in your blog. I am looking forward to following what you do in 2019 and wish you a successful, joyful and peaceful year ahead.

Hi Liz, Your inspiration brings peace and happiness. Thank you for sharing your passion. The call of the whip bird was literally a piece of summer in the midst of a dreary winter day around these parts.

  • Love the sketch of your teapot and cup!!! I love the vibrant blue design. I was in bed asleep by 10:00. I’ve never gone for the big “excitement” that New Year’s Eve brings. I’d rather have a cocktail and nice dinner at home with my husband and a few slow dances to Rod Stewart while dinner is cooking. Happy 2019! May it be a happy, healthy, inspired year for you.

Happy New Year Liz, I like the idea of adding something something different with a gel pen, given me something to think about. Looking forward to seeing your work and travels across the coming year!
