Big trip 2010: Inverness and surrounds

November 9, 2010 | Leave your thoughts

A few days in Inverness. My sister used to live here so it used to feel almost like my second home! River Cafe is a favourite spot for food.

Nice to have some Charlie Barley black pludding. There is two big brands from Stornoway (McLeod and McLeod and Charlie Barley) so I have now had both.

Bus to the aiport to pick up my hire care and then visiting friends.

An outing day to Dunrobin castle.

A view sketches from inside. I love that you can get inside information from people because you are sketching!

The exteriour of the castle.

Sketching from a photo to get a good idea of the overall design and a detail which I really loved.

Then back to Inverness and another castle sketch!

One of the iconic views of Inverness is the churches along the river – here are two of them. Sermon notes from prayer meeting.

One of my favourite spots in the town is the Ness Islands area. I have taken some beautiful photos here in previous visits. But sketching there is harder!

Another view from a riverside eating establishment.

And another prayer meeting!

It’s really nice when you have a view from your room!

And guess what – back at the River cafe again!

Sketch of my room!

It was lovely to have Esther come to visit for the weekend.

So we visited Culloden. I’ve been here before but it has been upgraded significantly since last time.

We then visited Urquhart castle and only had 20 minutes for a sketch. Crazy!

Here are two photos from the day.

A little calmer sketching from back in my room.

Dinner with my sister and brother-in-law who were in town to move some more stuff over to Lewis.

And so ended my week in Inverness.
