Europe 2025: Returning to Berlin

December 9, 2025 | Leave your thoughts

After two weeks in Poland I had a few nights back in Berlin on my way to Geneva for the Swiss Urban Sketchers Symposium.

It seemed that most of my Berlin friends were busy or out of town on the day I was there, so I ended up having a fun solo day. Which was just what I needed. as the only other solo day I had had on this trip was back 7.5 weeks before, on the first day!

As you can see from this combo image , I returned to my favourite building in Berlin – the Dom – for some fun experimental sketching.

But first two photos of the architecture of Berlin!

The scale of this city is grand.

I started my solo day with some Neocolor II and Neoart sketches. (BTW: I love Neoart!)

And then I proceeded to do two versions of the Dom from the same position!

Filming step-by-step videos for my Sketching Adventure Community on Patreon.

Then I did another version – using Neocolor II, Neoart and watercolour.

I wandered the streets, had lunch, did a few more sketches and then had a coffee.

I did an experimental line and shape sketch  from the fancy chocolate cafe Paul Wang had recommended.  I then just so happened to walk past a stationery store and bought some markers. 🙂

Last sketch in Germany and gorgeous sunset (hmm, markers are not the best media to do a gradation like this!)

Swiss Air: Fanciest plane I’ve ever been on – and the emptiest too.

Arrived in Geneva close to midnight. My last destination for this big trip!

Up next: teaching at the Swiss USK Symposium!
