Although I published articles at the time and afterwards shared a few of my favourite sketches from my big 8 week Europe trip last June-August, I haven’t shared my sketchbooks in their entirety. I have decided to share video flip-throughs of all 6 sketchbooks – one for each major destination. So here is the first phase of my trip: Italy.

These sketchbooks contain sketches from Milan, Vicenza and the Veneto region (part of the Palladian Odyssey planning week), Venice and a visit to Lucca to run a 2-day workshop.

Great sketches, thanks for sharing! I like how you focused on some areas with colors or shadows, and not others, as taught in Foundations!

Every time I see your skies I get inspired to try them yet again. Mine are always so harsh yours are so light and airy and sky like.

thanks Nicole. Skies is a subject matter that I am always wanting to develop and improve. Hmm, should do an article on that.

Any chance you are planning to teach how to sketch?

Wow. Your sketches are wonderful Liz! I am presently devouring Donna Leon’s Commissario Brunetti series of novels which are all set in and around Venice. Most of these beautiful buildings are mentioned in the books. I think you would enjoy them…when you have time to read!! Safe trip.
