Big trip 2010: New York sketches - Part 1

November 2, 2010 | Leave your thoughts

I was really looking forward to exploring NYC and it was totally amazing to have a friend – Shirley – to show me around through out my stay!

We met for breakfast the first morning and she then had a great day planned for us!

Sketching the Chrysler first up – nothing like pressure!

And then I started getting warmed up – Empire State and Bryant Park

Soho building – This is the first time I attempted a dramatic perspective (inspired by Lapin and Gerard in Portland) – it was so much fun and surprisingly easier than I expected.

A page to summarise my big first day!

Warm up sketching before heading out!

I found it really hard to sketch Mies’ masterpiece – Seagram Building – but it was so wonderful to attempt it. Drawing is the best way to understand architecture!

Crazy quick sketch of St Barts – this building is easier for me to sketch than the previous one!

The Plaza and a sideways map!

Central Park – The Terrace. From my wonderful afternoon with Veronica Lawlor and Margaret Hurst (Urban sketchers correspondents)

First time using a dip pen!

And then Margaret took us to sketch the skaters… so much fun!

She gives them names!

Dinner and then BB got drawn! Thanks Ronnie and Margaret for an amazing afternoon.
