Trip Prep 27-28: Map research from 2000

July 7, 2011 | 3 Comments

Maps from my first visit to London in 2000.

Drawn with felt pen on tracing paper, copic markers to underside of tracing paper then stuck on (crookedly!) to white paper and into a black paper photo album.

Hmmm… I like these maps very much – the use of colour and the 3D components are more successful that most of the maps that I do these days….but back then I had more time for these things …no that was definitely not the case! I was more careful!!

BTW… I am doing more trip preps than I can or will post….

  • Hi Liz, I have been following your blog for quite a while and your work is amazing! I love your sketches of maps and in this particular one, the axonometric-like drawing really draws me in. Your technique with trace paper and markers is great! It gives the sketch a different dimension and feel. But then again, I may be biased since I am an Interior Design student and all I work with is vellum and prisma markers! But I definitely think vellum & ink/markers is an under-appreciated medium. I've seen some great art created from their use and application! Anyways, just wanted to say how inspirational your blogs are and I look forward to seeing more!
