Trip Prep: Final colours in my paint tin

July 8, 2011 | 3 Comments

ok here it is… for such a pigment nutter as I am, it is a bit shocking that I have a few colours that are not single pigment…and that one of those is the burnt sienna colour!! Shocking.

Just for the record, I really don’t know all the pigments by number(PR 101 is the only one that I know!) but am addicted to poring over the details in the handprint site for many hours for information and guidance… in the end it comes down to what I find I like and works for me.

I have started my Trip Book Vol 1 this morning…after so much preparation it was rather nerve racking..so a palette sketch is the way to overcome this anxiety.

  • I'm a pigment nutter too thanks to Bruce McEvoy. In fact if it aint in his top 40, it aint going in my paintbox – well that's true for watercolours anyway! I love Perylene Maroon too – bye bye Permanent Alizarin Crimson!

  • I love your work and was wondering about the Portuguese tile designs you placed on the pages. Are these copies from books? How did you get the design so faded so that you could draw and paint over it?

    Thank you, Sheryl Kessler

michael – I haven't quite got all mine in the top 40. Love Pery Maroon (and Pery Green too!!!)
Sheryl, the book came with a CD, I edited them in photoshop to adjust the colour (it turned out to be quite a bit of work… sigh! ..but fun!!)
