London Day 2 - A bit of architecture and more sketching friends!

October 7, 2013 | Leave your thoughts

There is so much to do in London – lots of great museums, people to meet up with and lots of buildings. One of my favourite periods of architectural history is English Baroque and I have done a lot of personal study over the years on the work of Wren, Hawksmoor, Gibbs etc. So having a few days in London means trying to sketch as many of these buildings as I can!

Pouring rain (first rain in over a week in the UK) but I had organised with my great friend Alison to meet at the Portrait Gallery. Please go over and check out Alison’s amazing paintings and photography over at her blog.

I always try to get somewhere early so I can do a warm up sketch… so thankful that St MArtins In the Field was just accross the road- quick sketch to start the day.

I then dragged Alison up to a tea place in my tea and cake book – called Foxcraft and Ginger. Nice tea and lunch. A very quick sketch as a passed by V&A later in the afternoon.

Had a little time for a sketch of St Pauls Cathedral – love that building architecturally. So much fun to draw and explore Wrens masterpiece! It is a little strange that I only drew this portion of the building (didn’t touch the ground or include the dome) but I am fascinated by all the architectural tricks and details in the facade.

Wonderful dinner with another special sketching friend – Isabelle. Another big day!
