Old chair and new bag

September 30, 2015 | 6 Comments

Two more everyday pages in my sketchbook, trying to get back into the habit of sketching regularly just for me and not trying to make fancy pages, or develop exercises for others.

New Earl Grey tea, a new way to sketch my cup (An Edges approach to my Foundations cup), a new-ish bag that I have only started using, an old book on Palladio that I have never fully read….

and an old chair that I have labelled ‘retro’ to hide its unfashionableness – I am being slightly sarcastic in my use of that term!

As of last night the Edges course finished (with my last Feedback post going live). Now one of my favourite parts has started, hearing what people’s three takeaways are. I am getting some nice comments as well (thanks everyone!), but I am most interested in finding out what parts of the content hit the spot for most people. I am so happy with how the course went, and the outstanding work produced – I had tears in my eyes yesterday when reviewing all the incredible sketches full of lost and found edges. Liz Ackerley wrote this extensive summary of the course to give those that didn’t do the course an idea of what we did – thanks Liz!

Although the emphasis was sharing concepts (I think concepts are more empowering than just techniques), I gave away many tips and lots of video demos – 5 hours worth! I  can’t wait to re-offer it as a Self Directed Course early next year. Anyway… this is the last reference to Edges for a while – I promise! But I just have to end with a huge thank you to everyone that did the course – I had a complete ball, it was an honour to share with you a lot of the ideas that are kicking around in my head these days.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed the course Liz……and learned such a lot. I didn't post any sketches because I don't post….

  • Oh I am going to miss you!! I too took your Edges course. The bonus for me was your enthusiasm smile, and laughter during the videos. Made you so real, and I felt like I was right there with you. Thank goodness you write a blog so I can see what you are up too next. Thank you for the incredible mountain of work you put into that class. I learned so much !! 🙂 — Vivian/San Francisco

  • I too am going to miss you and the Edges Course! I just finished Edges and was so very happy that I had done your Foundations course just prior. Never has an online course impressed me as much as
Edges, the interactive version! Your organization of the material and thorough examples, exercises and demos are truly second to none. i have printed out my pdfs and am ready to practice, practice, practice
the concepts and tips you shared with us. Having spent a year living in and outside of Sydney in Cronulla
in 1984, I especially loved seeing many spots I remembered via your demos. Hope to meet up w/ you in a face to face Workshop in the future. THANKS for everything!! : -) Pati/Lake Nacimiento, CA
