081031 101_6 Pisa

Number 6 – this project is getting bigger than Ben Hur as I seem to be going down a path of doing a mini research project for each building (rather than just using my 1001 book for a few quick sketches) but it is SO much more satisfying to get a better understanding of the building before I draw it. And I love trying to find stuff on a specific building in my extensive personal architectural library!

I am trying to develop my loose style of complex buildings and at the moment I find the setting up process rather tedious – what I would like to improve on is to be able to do more accurate pencil guide lines so that I can then scribble away over the top! Maybe the fact that I do these late at night after a long day at work has something to do with the fact that I find it hard to do anything precise!! Oh, but it is fun.

The one thing that I have not been able to determine is how many arches there are around the tower – I guess 14(which is an interesting number) but haven’t been able to find a plan to confirm it. Also my lean is almost double the 3.9 degrees!

081025 20th World Wide Sketchcrawl

My second sketchcrawl. Met up with 2 fellow sketchers and wandered about Pyrmont, Darling Harbour and the City sketching on a most glorious Sydney spring day. Great time sketching and lots of sketch-chatting!
I then continued sketching on my own after we split up...

081023 October Virtual Sketch date

Been meaning to participate in the Virtual Sketch date for a few months now
http://virtualsketchdate.blogspot.com
...but always seem to miss the deadline. Didn't have much time this month so I did a 8 minute version - very loose and messy as usual.

081018 Sketching at Nutcote

A Sketching day at the home of famous Australian author May Gibbs (Snugglepot and Cuddlepie is her famous children's book with characters from the Australian bush) a beautiful day to be outdoors sketching.
My first page spread I used a .005 pen and didn't quite feel in the mood - certainly my circles were not working - the bird bath was the first thing I drew (being a lefty I often work right to left) and I then got back to using my beloved lamy pen which was better (though my perspective wasn’t the best)... Beautiful day, Great group of fellow sketchers but unfortunately the day was marred by a disaster!

081017 a Gum Nut

Or turpentine tree nut to be precise... another close encounter but this is certainly not an everyday item for everyone!

This will be my last post for the day - feel like I have been doing it all night....

081017 Roast Dinner

Ok... more food - getting a little out of practice!

081017 EDM 193 Extreme Closeup

An architectural response - plans elevations and section. There is no real reason why I use green and red... and the superimposed views are somewhat crazy!
This is actually an object which I remember examining to see how it worked when I was a teenager

081017 101 Buildings - No. 4

I hope this project doesn't get bigger than Ben Hur... I now plan to do little sketches of the plan or section as well as copying the photo in the 1001 Buildings book - well at least I am getting back to my big ambition of developing a system for doing quick analytical sketches of buildings.

081015 A feather

The idea to draw a feather is not mine EDM 192 Something that Floats – I drew this due to an email I received from the Colourguru http://www.flickr.com/photos/thecolourguru/ asking me if I had ever drawn a feather...I hadn’t so of course I had to try!

081016 A new sketchbook

Catching up on my recent sketches... breaking away from my Moleskine watercolour books for a change and using a small Canson Watercolour book - it is beautiful!
A few more random sketches... It is nice when the first couple of spreads are completed.

A new project: 101 Buildings

Ok... This is not a serious project in that I do not actually plan to draw 101 buildings from my “1001 Buildings you must see” book... But I thought it was a good idea when I am looking for things to draw! Only 98 to go....

Teapot Doodles

Often during the day at work I doodle on a scrap piece of paper while waiting for computers or printers to do there things. Decided that I need to start doing more of these in my journal... So this is this weeks efforts (I almost forgot about the project on two days – a sign that I am working hard and very focused on the jobs at hand?)
